Christ Fellowship’s Special Needs Ministry provides one-on-one or small group assistance to individuals of all ages (children through adults) with disabilities while their parent or caregiver participates in ministry events or church activities.

We coordinate training and education about available resources within Christ Fellowship and our community while providing practical support. Our desire is to facilitate inclusion, accessibility and encouragement to individuals and families impacted by disabilities through programs as our “Shadow” ministry, therapeutic horseback riding, Wheelchair collection and distribution, art ministries, support groups and fellowship.

The Hand of Hope Center is a place where families impacted by disability can participate in many wonderful programs and volunteers have the opportunity to serve. This cause and effect provides for a welcoming environment, full of faith, family and fun!

We offer ASL interpretation and a welcoming community for our deaf and hard of hearing culture.

Special Events

  • Saturday Fall & Spring Season Ministry. Open ministry days (weather permitting): First (1st) & Third (3rd) Saturday of the month. Time: 7:30AM – 2:30PM. Where: Hand of Hope Center Center.
  • Annual Christmas Party: Saturday, December 14 at 1PM – 4PM. Volunteers 10AM – 5PM. By Registration only. Limited spots. Please contact AliciaS@CFToday.org for more information.

Provides one-on-one or small group assistance to individuals of all ages (children through adults) with disabilities during church services and church-sponsored events. Children and youth participate in programs while their parents attend worship services or church sponsored events at the Hand of Hope Center. Adults with disabilities participate in worship or any church programs with assistance as needed. At this time, we offer respite to the parent or caregiver while onsite and participating in worship or any of our Christ Fellowship events or programs. Contact us for additional information.

Buddy Ministry
One of the important things we do is partner with families who have children with disability. Each child (12 years old and under) is assigned a trained adult or “Buddy” who helps them participate in the CFKids experience, which takes place at our many participating campuses and during some of our Saturday or Sunday worship service times. Pre-Registration is required.

Access Deeper is a life group that meets once a month and is offered at the Hand of Hope Center to older high school and young adults, with typical and special abilities together with unique learning styles learn about deep Biblical truths in an interactive, fun filled environment. There are games, stories, videos and lots of fellowship. Parents are also invited to participate.

Access FRIENDS class is a place where adults with intellectual disabilities (18 and older) can experience the joy of God’s love and the freedom of celebrating who we are in Christ. We meet Sundays at 10AM for singing, Bible stories and crafts.

The Horseback Riding Program promotes recreational riding with therapeutic benefits for children, teens and adults with disabilities. Our riding center is PATH/NARHA certified. We provide fellowship and support for the entire family. Horse shows and awards dinners are a part of the program.

Opportunities to serve: Horse owners to volunteer with their horses, side-walkers, PATH instructors, riding instructors, horse leaders, barn helpers, administrative assistance.

When: The first (1st) & third (3rd) Saturday of the month during Spring and Fall sessions

The Special Needs Ministry collects wheelchairs, walkers, crutches and canes.

In partnership with Joni and Friends, Wheels for the World sends these collections to correctional facilities for refurbishment. Once refurbished, these are sent overseas to developing countries and given with the sharing of the Gospel to individuals with disabilities at no cost and with no strings attached.

The Special Needs Ministry’s wheelchair lending closet assists individuals when in need of a wheelchair, walker, crutches or a cane and, when there is availability. It also partners with local organizations that serve people with disabilities.

Wheelchair Drive
Through the efforts of our Wheelchair ministry leadership and volunteers, the Special Needs Ministry has collected 20,000 wheelchairs plus walkers, crutches, and canes. The new goal is to reach 30,000 wheelchairs. Many helping hands are needed in order to reach this goal! Contact us for more information on how you can get involved.

Art classes taught by teachers experienced in the area of special needs. Children with disabilities and siblings are encouraged to create, explore and grow. There are many opportunities to serve as room helpers, art teachers or shadows.

The Hand of Hope Center is a welcoming place where families impacted by disability can participate in the many fun-filled activities, through carefully designed programs, a dedicated staff and ready and committed volunteers. Some programs are Shadow RESPITE, Therapeutic Riding, Arts & Abilities, Moving Murals, Sign Language Classes, Game night for the deaf, Wheelchair Ministry, Bible Club, Food Outreach & Fellowship, Access Deeper, Life-groups, special events, orientation, volunteer training and disability awareness training.

With the guidance of our unique leaders and the help of many eyes and hands, Bible stories come to life through paintings, and in the process, the personal discovery of many talents occurs. These paintings are later put on display and used to share the wonderful stories of the Bible with others.

A place to be creative through cooking, prepping and serving; to connect meet people, form relationships and belong. Individuals with disabilities, families, volunteers, and guests come together for a time of fellowship, the breaking of bread together and learning from God’s Word.

Special Women with Purpose: If you are a woman living a disabilities lifestyle (individual, mom, wife or friend of someone with a disability), join us weekly for a time of fellowship, support and resource awareness and a study of the Word. Come be encouraged and strengthened. Meets most Wednesdays at 1PM. Registration is required. No cost to attend.

Co-ed Bible Study & Life Group: Meets weekly on Wednesday 6PM – 7:30PM with some exceptions during the Fall and Spring season to fellowship, pray and study God’s Word. We strengthen and encourage one another; Accountability and support are key elements. We welcome volunteers serving in the ministry and adults participating in Special Needs.

Usher Assistance: Available to individuals with disabilities throughout all services. If you have a special need and need usher assistance in advance, contact us.

Joni and Friends Area Ministry: Christ Fellowship partners with Joni and Friends as an Area Ministry Center. Joni and Friends is a disability outreach founded by Joni Eareckson Tada. Joni is paralyzed from the neck down as a result of a diving accident. The mission of Joni and Friends is to communicate the Gospel while equipping churches to evangelize and disciple people with disabilities.
