Love Will Move You

“Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God.  Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.”

– 1 John 4:7-8

Real love will move you.  Real love will compel you to love others. Real love isn’t stagnant and does not wait around. When real love is shown by you, real love is seen by others. Real love is modeled by you to be motivating to others.

When I first met my wife Teresa it was love at first sight…well okay, maybe for me but not for her. It took her a while to see the light. But when I first saw Teresa I knew that I was going to marry her. I know it’s weird but I knew. When I knew that she was THE ONE, I had to put my feelings into motion. I couldn’t just stand around and hope she knew how I felt, I had to show her how I felt.

God loved you and I so much that He just didn’t want us to hope that we would figure out how much He loved us. God knew for us to truly understand His love for all mankind that we would need to see it put into action.

“God showed how much He loved us by sending His one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through Him. This is real love—not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.” – 1 John 4:9-10

God loves us so much that He sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. He loves us no matter what. His love is not limited to those who obey Him or love Him back. He doesn’t reject us because we are different or because we are too sinful. God’s love moves without rejection and we should love others the same way. However, before we can love others and put that love into action we must first understand the powerful love that God has for you and me.

1 Peter 4:8…”love covers over a multitude of sins.

I can remember when my kids were little and they would hide under a blanket. I would pretend like I didn’t see them and that they were invisible but I knew exactly where they were. They weren’t inconspicuous or quiet. Although they were completely covered up…nothing of them was exposed.

You and I were full of sin. Even when we were trying to be inconspicuous to God and trying to hide all that we had done – God still saw us and our sin. But because of Jesus and His blood, now when God sees us, all He sees is His Son, Jesus. When you surrender your life to Christ, the Bible tells us we put on Christ…He covers us. So when God sees you all He sees is His Son.

God did not reject us because of our sin. His love moved so that we could be made right with Him.

God’s commitment to love, God’s commitment to you – so God gave us Jesus.

Romans 8:38-39 “And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

The point Paul is trying to make in Romans is this…We are significant to God and NOTHING can separate us from His love.

Have you ever been walking along and realized that you had gum stuck on the bottom of your shoe? My first thought, “Who in the world would have thrown their gum on the ground?” My second thought, “Great…now I’ve gotta touch this to get it off.”

What I have realized in those moments is that no matter how hard you try, you can’t always get off every piece of gum from your shoe. It just seems to always be there.

Think about God’s love as a love that is on you. You can try to shake it off, you can try to pry it off – but God just simply loves you. I am so thankful that the love of God is on me. I am thankful for the times in my life when even though I tried to run away from the love of God that it still was all over me.

You are significant. You are a child of God. Because of God’s love and the blood of Jesus Christ you are now a son or daughter of God.

God’s love has been shown to you in such a powerful way. Don’t let this day pass you by without thanking God for His life-changing love and then showing that love to someone else.
