Bond of Sisterhood

  • Speak Life Over People

At Christ Fellowship we have a set of Leadership Values that we live by. “We speak life,” is one of them and it comes from Proverbs 18:21 –

“Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.”

We have all experienced seasons of getting stuck in frustration or discouragement and focusing on a problem. In times like these, it’s important to remind ourselves and others that God’s promises are bigger than any problem we can ever face. We are called to be faith builders—not mud-slingers! Sisters take the time to patiently listen, validate feelings and then gently turn the conversation by speaking life over the situation with promises we find in God’s word. Don’t be poisonous, be fruity!

  • Believe the Best

“Let’s stop condemning each other. Decide instead to live in such a way that you will not cause another believer to stumble and fall.”

Romans 12:13

The truth is that most of us tend to judge others by their actions while wanting others to judge us by our intentions. Let’s remember that we are all a work in progress, none of us have “arrived” yet. As sisters, we must give grace to others in the same measure we would hope to receive and always choose to believe the best!

  • Look for Common Ground

“He [Jesus] comes alongside us when we go through hard times, and before you know it, He brings us alongside someone else who is going through hard times so that we can be there for that person just as God was there for us.”

2 Corinthians 1:4-5

It is so natural for us to zoom in on our differences – styles of parenting, economic status, habits, hobbies, etc. – and essentially choose comparison over camaraderie. Comparison breeds envy, judgment and eventually divisionInstead of opening the door to contention, let’s choose to focus on our similarities: We are sisters in Christ, loved by the King and chosen for a purpose. When we see our sisters in this light it will change our attitudes and create a bridge that brings us into unity.

Sisterhood is not just for a few…it’s for all of us, regardless of ethnicity, age or background. Take the next few days to reflect on some practical ways you can create a bond with the sisters God has placed in your life by:

  • Speaking life over those who are discouraged,
  • Believing the best in those you may not identify with, and
  • Extending friendship to those who are different than you by looking for common ground.
