One Story

Transformation through tragedy

Hours before she was struck and killed by a car, Beatriz Franco tried to convince her 26-year-old granddaughter Angie to go to a concert at Christ Fellowship.

After all, Beatriz had spent the first 50 years of her life without knowing God. So when she finally discovered His peace, she longed for her family to know it, too.

For someone with a less profound faith, that dream might have died when she did. But God heard Beatriz' petitions for her loved ones and answered her prayers: At her funeral, 27 friends and family members received Christ as their Savior.

A whole family, together in God

Angie was among those who made their way to the altar that day, rededicating her life to the Lord after a long time away. "Unfortunately, it had to take that tragic moment for us to come together and have a personal relationship with God," says Angie. "Through this, the whole family is together in God. It opened our eyes to cherish one another."

The day after her grandmother's death, Angie got a call from Javier Jimenez, a lay leader with MAX, the teen ministry of Christ Fellowship en Espaņol. Javier had already talked with Beatriz about her granddaughter, and reached out to offer support.

In the meantime, Angie began to worship at Christ Fellowship, ready to resume her Christian walk in earnest. She attended concerts, where Javier often played the drums. They continued to talk and explore God's promises, and over time, their friendship began to deepen.

A grandmother's legacy

This August, they were married in Smith Chapel on Gardens South Campus. Angie and Javier still worship with CFE and serve with the MAX team on the Gardens Campus, helping young people come to understand God's great love.

She knows Beatriz would be proud and pleased. "My grandmother left a legacy in each one of our hearts," Angie says. "Even in death, she is a light leading others to Christ."

Consider this: If God were to call you to heaven today, whose life would be impacted? Whose life has been touched by your faith, by your testimony, by your reliance on God? Who needs your prayers today?
