Are Dinosaurs Mentioned in the Bible?

Evolutionary scientists, textbooks, and even Hollywood movies depict dinosaurs as massive creatures that lived 65 million years ago. However, if the Bible is to be understood literally, and the known scientific facts are to be taken at face value, these time epochs are figments of an evolutionary imagination and dinosaurs where part of “young earth” creation about 6000 years ago.

According to the biblical account, land dinosaurs would have been made on the sixth day, along with Adam and Eve and would have co-existed with humans for thousands of years. Evidence of this coexistence is found in the dragon stories that are part of many world cultures. The myths regarding dragons are actually corrupted stories about dinosaurs interacting with humans.

Biblical support for this view is found in the book of Job. This very ancient book in the Bible dates back to 2000 years B.C. In a speech to the suffering Job, God describes two creatures, behemoth and leviathan, which have characteristics of a brontosaurus and a marine dinosaur.

About behemoth, God says in Job 40:15-18: “Look at the behemoth, which I made along with you and which feeds on grass like an ox. What strength he has in his loins, what power in the muscles of his belly! His tail sways like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are close-knit. His bones are tubes of bronze, his limbs like rods of iron.” (emphasis added) Typically, this is interpreted as a hippopotamus, but it is hard to imagine the tail of a hippo ‘swaying like a cedar.”

In Job 41, God comments on leviathan as a vicious creature that even attacks man (v. 8). This beast is often understood to be a large crocodile. The description of its anatomy goes way beyond crocodilian features, and may have included some form of “fire-breathing.” This large creature could not be captured by fishing equipment and subdued by man. This is hardly true of a crocodile, but is very conceivable for a large aquatic dinosaur.

Since the Bible is a historical account and teaches that God created humans and dinosaurs in the relative recent past, we can expect modern science one day to uncover more field evidence to support this claim.
