Changing Life Patterns
Do you struggle with wanting to change and then repeating the same destructive patterns even with your best efforts to change?
“One of the things I struggled with in my life was feeling like I had to be all cleaned up before I could be accepted. Through Recovery, I came to accept who I am and let go of who I believed I was expected to be.” - Lisa
Tough Love
Are you stuck behaving differently around certain friendships or family members?
Family and friends can often encourage us to accept unacceptable behavior, to participate in unhealthy behavior, and to feel stuck while they don’t desire to change their own behavior.
“I felt discouraged and trapped while I was seeking help for my marriage to address the hurtful behaviors I was experiencing. Recovery has taught me that I can obtain the help and support I need even if the other person never changes.” -Donna
Are you obsessed with the Behavior of Others?
Do you have an overdeveloped sense of responsibility? Is it easier for you to be concerned with others rather than yourself, so that you avoid looking at your own faults or your responsibility to yourself?
“When I came into recovery I was always pointing my finger (outward focused) saying that if this person only stopped doing this or if that person only didn’t to that to me then I would be fine. What I have learned in Recovery is to put the focus on myself (feel my feelings) so that I am able to help others in healthy way.” -Ryan
